Definition: ATCs or Artist trading cards are 2.5in. by 3.5in. original art works originally intended for (physical via mail) trade between artists. I believe in this definition of ATCs, therefor I will never sell one.
Trading: As said in the definition above cards are to be physically traded a.k.a. mailing them. If you or your parents don't want to give your address to random artists on the internet this is fine. However you must tell this to the person your with trading with first. Also realize that your trader could be in another country than you, so are you will to mail internationally? If not make arrangements.
[EDIT]Mailing Internationally: The person you trading with will give you their address so just write it on the envelope. Then either A. stick on a global forever stamp($1.10 USA) or B. Take it to the post office and have them do it for you. (make sure they know its international mail)
ETC. Trade for equal value art, don't spend 5 minutes on a trade. Take pride in your work because it builds character, a good reputation, and makes you a stronger artist.
Missing deadlines: Its a good idea to establish a deadline because we all work at different paces. Also you or the other artist might be just plain old busy with life, so say "hey I have a lot of stuff on my plate at the moment, it might take a month but you'll get your end of the trade". If an emergency comes up just say so, any decent person will hold off a trade if your grandmother falls down the stairs.
Requests: Unless your part of an already established mass exchange you'll be requested to draw something by the person your trading with, in return you request something as well. So what do you do when your asked to draw something you have difficulty drawing? Sketch! Twist the design around, add in new features, hide pieces you absolutely hate (shrubbery is a big help), or just ask for something else. Remember challenging ATCs help you grow.
